🏌️♂️ Wrapping Up 2024 with the Hero World Challenge
As the year winds down, we arrive at the final individual event of the golf calendar: the Hero World Challenge. First introduced in 1999, this tournament was initially part of what was known as the “Silly Season”—a collection of off-season events that were more about fun and big payouts than competition. Today, 25 years later, the Hero World Challenge stands alone as the last of those events, largely due to Tiger Woods lending his name and influence to it. Since 2016, the tournament has found a spectacular home at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, one of the most exclusive resorts in the world.

🏝️ Albany Golf Club: A Premier Destination
Nestled on 600 oceanside acres in New Providence, the Albany Golf Club is a masterpiece designed by Ernie Els and opened in 2010. This course perfectly blends links and desert-style elements, featuring windswept dunes, strategically placed water hazards, and pristine conditions. The gentle ocean breezes keep temperatures comfortably around 80°F, making it an ideal location for world-class golf.
The club boasts exceptional facilities, including a 400-yard driving range, numerous chipping and putting greens, and a state-of-the-art performance center. Many PGA Tour pros, such as Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, and Adam Scott, are not only members but also homeowners in this luxurious community.
At 7,449 yards, the course layout is both challenging and scorable. Five par 5s and three par 3s provide ample scoring opportunities, but the ever-present Bahamian wind can add a layer of difficulty. While winds will be moderate at the start of the tournament, they are expected to pick up slightly over the weekend, keeping players on their toes.

🔑 Keys to Success at Albany
One intriguing aspect of the Hero World Challenge at Albany is its history of unexpected winners. While marquee names often headline the field, the victors are frequently dark horses. Viktor Hovland (2022), Henrik Stenson (2019), and Rickie Fowler (2018) all triumphed despite not being favorites. These results underscore the importance of ball striking and proximity to the hole—key metrics to watch for this week.
Players with strong recent form also tend to shine. For instance, Justin Thomas, a consistent performer at Albany, has finished in the top 12 in all six of his starts, including a third-place finish last year. He’s a strong contender this week.
As an unofficial event, stats are not tracked, adding an air of unpredictability. However, history suggests that great ball strikers and players eager to break through with a win have the edge. Keep an eye on names like Thomas, Cameron Young, and Sepp Straka—any of them could surprise us as we close out the year.

📈 DraftKings Points Analysis for the 2024 Season
We’ve compiled a comprehensive database covering the start of the 2024 season through the 2024 RSM Classic, totaling 46 events (excluding team events). This database includes each player’s DraftKings points earned during each event and their associated costs. From this data, we’ve calculated the total DraftKings points earned, the players’ average points per event, and the average points based on the number of rounds played.
Here is a look at all 20 players in the field:
🔑 Key Performers and Consistency
• Scottie Scheffler ($11,900) stands out as the most reliable performer, with 100% cuts made (20 of 20) and the highest total DraftKings points (2160.0). His average of 108.0 points per event and 27.3 points per round makes him a must-consider for top-tier lineups.
• Ludvig Åberg ($10,000) also delivers strong value with 90% cuts made and an average of 80.1 points per event. However, his points per round (21.3) are considerably lower than Scheffler’s, reflecting less dominance per round.
🤩 Value Picks
• Sahith Theegala ($7,300): With 88% cuts made across 25 events and an average of 73.8 points per event, Theegala is a high-value option. His consistent scoring and affordable price make him an excellent mid-tier pick.
• Aaron Rai ($6,900): A hidden gem with 83% cuts made across 24 events, Rai averages 72.3 points per event and 19.5 per round. His low cost and reliability offer great value.
• Brian Harman ($6,600): With 91% cuts made and 69.3 points per event, Harman is a budget-friendly choice with solid consistency.
🔼 Potential Upside
• Justin Thomas ($9,600): Although his cuts-made percentage (80%) is slightly lower than other top players, his 71.7 points per event and 20.2 points per round suggest he could perform well if he finds form this week.
• Cameron Young ($6,800): With a strong cuts-made percentage (95%) and an average of 72.1 points per event, Young offers solid upside for his price point.
🏇 Surprises and Dark Horses
• Sepp Straka ($6,100): Despite being the most affordable player, Straka’s performance (58.4 points per event and 17.3 points per round) is underwhelming. He’s a longshot pick for those willing to take a risk.
• Akshay Bhatia ($6,700): At 65% cuts made, Bhatia has one of the lowest consistencies, but his total points (1707.0) suggest potential for volatility-based upside in tournaments.
🔎 Players to Watch for Potential Bounce-Back
• Wyndham Clark ($8,000): Although his 73% cuts-made percentage is lower, his total points (1638.0) and strong performance in key events suggest he could be a solid contender.
• Matthieu Pavon ($6,000): With only 63.1 points per event and a cuts-made percentage of 80%, Pavon might be a sleeper pick for those looking to diversify their lineup.
