1. Hossler torches Sedgefield with a 61, but the Playoffs demand a win
Beau Hossler needed a spark and lit a bonfire, opening the Wyndham Championship with a 9-under 61 to seize a one-shot lead over Sahith Theegala and Ben James, who each posted 62 before weather suspended play Thursday evening (the last groups finished Friday morning). Donald Ross's par-70 gave up its usual pile of red numbers, with Eric Cole at 63 and six more at 64. Joaquin Niemann handed a bruising Trump National Bedminster a 7-under 64 to lead LIV Golf New York and put Torque GC atop both the individual and team boards, while the two men fighting for the season-long crown spun their wheels. Points leader Jon Rahm ground out a 1-over 72, and chief pursuer Bryson DeChambeau unraveled for a 5-over 76, his worst LIV round of 2026, punctuated by a tee-box bottle toss that missed the trash can and found the cameras. DeChambeau's 76 is a market overcorrection waiting to happen. One nightmare round will swing "top individual" and Rahm-vs-Bryson head-to-head prices hard toward Rahm on Friday.
